The Tree City USA®, Tree Campus USA®, Tree Line USA® program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters, provides direction, technical assistance, public attention and national recognition for urban and community forestry programs in thousands of towns and cities that more than 135 million Americans call home.
There are more 115 Tree City USA communities, Tree Campus USA campuses and Tree Line USA utilities in Nebraska, representing 80 percent of our state's population. Auburn, Nebraska is the only Nebraska community to receive the Tree City USA designation when the program started in 1975 and the only city in Nebraska that has remained in the program continuously since the time of the program's establishment. Julian, Nebraska is the smallest Tree City USA in the country with a population of 71.
